A National Emergency Summit held in Lagos recently. It was called by Prof Pat Utomi and involved the assemblage of very important citizens. It was meant to jaw-jaw on ways out of the country’s numerous problems. In this piece, Ayodele Samuel described it as another journey without destination.

NAHCON and missing or misplaced Hajj luggage

For years, even before the establishment of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria(NAHCON) in 2006, missing and misplacement of pilgrims’ luggage by airlines, has remained an issue pilgrims suffer which has left many with bitter memories of the once in a life time religious trip to the holy land. This is because it takes some affected pilgrims a long time to recover missing luggage while others never get to see such luggage ever again and never get compensated when such occurs. This was the case of some pilgrims that performed the 2011 pilgrimage to the holy land and Maryam Garba Hassan writes on this phenomenon.

NDIC: A risk minimiser with the Midas touch

The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) was set up as a risk minimiser in Nigeria’s banking sector. Last year, the NDIC began the implementation of its second strategic plan (2011-2015). Despite the fact that Year 2011 had witnessed series of turbulence which threatened the nation’s entire financial system, the NDIC had continued to showcase its mandates in keeping its place as an active Nigerian financial safety-net player.

Sunday 5th February 2012 was indeed a sad day for traders of Otukpo market as scores of shops went up in flames leaving in its wake bitter tale of destruction told with tears as goods worth millions of naira went with the raging flames.
