There is a general belief among Africans, for instance, that a man’s life is preordained and ruled by the gods. This belief finds expression in so many proverbs, folklores and names in Igbo land.

Our first meeting was in late 1974. He was the young managing director of the defunct Dantata Land and Sea Ltd.  I was a young engineer starting a career with Mobil Oil Nigeria Limited. We were both present at the meeting called by the Kano regional office of Mobil to discuss issues associated with the haulage contract being handled by Dantata Land and Sea Limited. He made a detailed presentation.

Dr Matthew Tawo Mbu, the 82-year-old elder statesman and seasoned diplomat who died on Feb. 6, was buried at his country-home, Okundi, in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River on Friday, March 30.
The funeral rites of the nationalist politician began with the lying-in-state of his body at Kenyon’s Funeral Home, London, sometime in March.

On a day like yesterday, April 4, ten years ago, a great soul answered the inevitable call. The call all mortals must respond at the appointed time. The world was rudely awakened by the distressing news that poignant April morning in 2002 that Alhaji Muhammadu Adamu Dankabo, the late Jarman Kano was no more.
