An appeal has gone to the Federal Government to restrain Governor Aliyu Akwe Doma’s administration  in Nasarawa State, from using the police and other security agencies to illegally harass and intimidate political opponents and their supporters.
A statement by the Postgraduate Students Association of Nigeria, National Association of Nigerian Students and the Coalition of Nasawara State Students called on the President Goodluck to be mindful of Governor Aliyu Akwe’s intrigues of shielding himself from the long arm of the law.
The student groups accused the governor of running away from EFCC hammer after some concerned citizens of the state have earlier submitted a petition to probe the Governors fraudulent activities.
According to the statement, the Nigerian students are vehemently opposed to the arrest and detention of comrade Umaru Tanko Al-makura (CPC Gubernatorial candidate, Nasarawa State) for no just cause.
The students said: “We are also sad about Gov Doma’s role in the killing of innocent under-aged children by the police. The Nigerian students also advise the EFCC chairperson, Mrs. Farida Waziri not to allow herself be used by the government to achieve selfish purposes. We also condemn the arrest of Dr. Hasan Lawal by the EFCC because he made a valid assessment of the inept government in Nasarawa State,” the statement said
The students  reminded President Goodluck Jonathan that it is only in Nasarawa state that no project was commissioned by the president describing it as  the only state where nothing works other than strikes which has caused students to stay home for over four months as a result of collapse of the education system in the state.
The statement also appealed to all Nigerians as well as international community especially, the Human Rights and the civil society organisations to take note of the ugly happenings in the Nigerian political environment and Nasarawa state in particular.
