The PDP in Abia, has suspended Chief Joshua Ogbonna, special adviser to Abia state Governor on Print Media, for alleged anti-party activities, an official has said.
Chief Paul Meregini, Ndume Ward Chairman of the party, told newsmen in Umuahia that, the action, which, he said, had been ratified by the leadership of the PDP at the local government level, was initiated in his ward.
He alleged that, Ogbonna dragged the party and INEC to court, having failed in his bid to win the party’s ticket for Umuahia-East constituency in the Abia state House of Assembly, for his wife.
Meregini said that, the action, was contrary to provisions of the PDP constitution, and Meregini alleged that, Ogbonna and his wife were not members of the PDP, until two days before the election.
“As the ward chairman, I drew his attention two days to the election, to the fact that, they had not formalised their membership of the party and that, he had been parading a fake PDP membership card which had 9646043 as its number.
“It was out of my magnanimity that, I enrolled their names two days to the primary and back dated it and issued Ogbonna and his wife card number 8981144 and 891142, respectively,” he said.
Meregini said that, the Governor’s aide was under oath not to take the party to court, if the wife loses the primary, “but, he reneged and took us to court even when the wife was not qualified to contest because, she was not due for a waiver”.
Reacting, Ogbonna refuted the allegations, adding that, he was not under suspension, saying that, he and his wife went to court, following the manner the PDP primary in Umuahia-East constituency was conducted, stressing that, his wife clearly won the ticket, but was denied. (NAN)
