Commissioner for Lands,
Alhaji Hussainin Garba, a Congress for progressive Change (CPC) member, yesterday explained that he and three others on the platform of the party accepted to serve under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s government of Governor Ibrahim Shema in order to respect the wishes of the elders of their party.
Obviously responding to criticism of their action by certain Local Government Chairmen on the platform of the CPC in the state, Garba said they took the action following the resolution of the CPC elders who jointly entered into agreement with the PDP to develop the state.He said “Our acceptance to serve under the PDP-led government followed the resolution of the state CPC elders, who entered into an agreement with the PDP to jointly develop the state.
“We are loyal members of the CPC, therefore we have to respect the decision of the party’s elders to join the PDP-led government with a view to serving the state”.
Garba denied the allegation that they joined the state government without the consent of the party. He also said that the CPC executives, in their respective local governments and at the state level, were fully behind their nomination as commissioners.
The Land Commissioner who found nothing wrong in joining the ruling party to contribute his own quota to the development of the state said “After all, what is wrong in joining an opposition to serve one’s state?
“Garba restated the commitment of the CPC chieftains to serve the state in whatever capacity in order to contribute to its upliftment.
He equally commended Governor Ibrahim Shema for appointing them as Commissioners even as they were from the opposition party and assured the people of their loyalty and commitment to the government.
The four CPC members from Malumfashi, Danmusa, Duara and Zango joined the PDP-led government as commissioners but were criticized for taking such action by some local government Chairmen on the platform of the opposition CPC.
