The Goodluck/Jonathan campaign train, which sojourned in Adamawa yesterday, experienced a low turnout, as people in the state carried on with their normal business, oblivious of the rally taking place at Mahmud Ribadu square.
The low turnout, Peoples Daily gathered, was in connection with the recent spate of bomb explosions at political gatherings in some states as well as the heavy security at the entrance of venue of the rally.
President Goodluck Jonathan, who arrived the Yola International Airport Wednesday evening, was accompanied by the Vice-President Namadi Sambo as well as leaders and stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Addressing supporters at the venue of the presidential campaign, President Jonathan thanked the Adamawa PDP delegates and Governor Murtala Nyako for their votes during the party’s presidential primaries in Abuja.
Jonathan assured that, he would accord priority attention to all sectors of the economy, in order to create wealth, employment, revenue to ensure improved standard of living for all Nigerians, irrespective of ethno-religious divides.
“We have also continued to tell Nigerians that we must at least solve our power problems because without power, we cannot encourage entrepreneurs; very soon power failure will be a thing of the past in this country,” he declared.
Earlier in his address, Governor Nyako assured the President that, the party would mobilise its entire structures, to ensure that the President and all candidates contesting elective positions in the April emerge victorious.
Conspicuously absent at the rally, was former Vice- President and PDP former presidential aspirant, Atiku Abubakar, Senator Jibril Aminu and North-East zonal Vice Chairman, Paul Wampana.
During the rally, former Minister of Education and defeated ANPP presidential aspirant, Dauda Birma, told President Jonathan and his supporters that he has defected to the PDP with thousands of his supporters.
