Oshodi now calm after bloody clashes |
From James Sani Swam, Lagos Calm and normalcy have returned to Oshodi, a suburb in Isolo Local Government Area of Lagos State where violence broke out Monday between two factions of the Nigerian Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). The fracas claimed one life, while many persons sustained injuries.
Lagos State Police Spokesperson Frank Mba told Peoples Daily that “swift intervention from the police helped to douse tension,” adding: “presently the crisis has been nipped in the bud and so there is no cause for alarm.” He said it was a minor misunderstanding between two rival factions struggling for power and control of the area, noting however, that some members of the NURTW were arrested and were in police custody.
