ECOTOPIA is an acronym for ecological utopia; an imaginary state in which everything is ecologically perfect. The theory of Ecotopia was first popularised in Ernest Callenbach’s lively account where the politics and personal relationships are mellow, peaceful and environmentally benign.

Motor vehicles are not permitted in Ecotopia, but bicycles are freely available. Materials are recycled, and energy is supplied by direct solar radiation and massive heat exchangers that use seawater. The people are healthy, their air and water are free of toxins.

It is a bio-physical region blessed with plentiful rainfall and abundant fish, forests, and agricultural lands.

Where it happens first is of little consequence. The disciples of Ecotopia’s ideals are not just dreamers, believe are achievable virtually everywhere.

Indeed, Ecotopia concepts have been promoted not just by Callenbach and Garreau, but by Ecotopia theorists and in the writings of B.F. Schumacher, who advocates locally-based environmentally sustainable economies.

Great philosophies and ideas come from the fertile minds of great thinkers. Philosophy speaks the language and concepts of its time, as its contemporaries must understand it. It grows from the deepest reflection on the burning problems of the age.

It’s no gainsaying the fact that one of the burning problems of our time is how to sustain our environment. No technology has been able to solve our ecological problems, instead it adds more, taking into consideration the problem of ozone layer depletion largely due to man-made technology with the use of refrigerants, aerosol, fire extinguishers and solvents made with chlorofluorocarbons, halos and other ozone depleting substances. No country on the Earth planet is left out. Like most environmental problems, they cut across nations’ boundaries.

Besides this, there are other man-made activities that pollute and destroy our environment. Ecotopia disciples believe that living the “nature way” is the only panacea to solving our myriads of environmental problems that seems ready to consume man and his environment.

Eco-disciples see NATURE as their guide like the Holy Books. They theorized that if the precepts and commandments as revealed by the “Book of Nature” are well adhered to, the world environment would have become the biblical “Garden of Eden” in no distant future. They believe that the exemplary state of nature as it manifests in its creation should be a guide to establishing an Ecotopian state.

Nature has demonstrated its excelling wisdom in the creations we see on Earth. Nature knows how to make, to use, and dispose off things clinically. Many of the systems are automatic. A seed germinates, and a plant grows and produces fruits. It then dies, with all its elements, breaking down in non-polluting fashion, ready to be reused. This is recycling at its best. No toxic pollution.

But here is a puzzle: What of nature uncontrollable hazards with all the perceived perfection in the scheme of creation. Ecotopian disciples argue that earthquakes, hurricanes, volcanoes, floods and related violent events are sculptors of landscapes and agents of ecological change. When they adversely affect us, we see them as hazards or disasters. And indeed, disasters are pervasive in nature.

But in situation, where people are the main agents of pollution and land degradation, and also their victims would be a thing of the past should we copy nature in its excelling wisdom in our activities.

Today, we are living in a world full of all sorts of pollution consequence of man’s activities. Researchers have revealed that electrons flowing through space or wire, produce a corresponding electromagnetic field (EMF), commonly known as radiation, penetrates through space, walls, metal and human body which are invisible to the eye. The effect of EMF as proved by researchers are legion; which include, headache, impaired concentration, loss of energy, stress, brain tumor, immune deficiency among others.
