ABUCCIMA scribe canvasses overhaul of power sector for efficiency

First Deputy President of Abuja Chamber of Commerce, Industry Mines and Agriculture, Dr. Solomon Nyagba, has suggested that drastic overhaul be carried out at top echelon of power sector.

He canvassed this position yesterday in an interview with newsmen at the on-going 5th Abuja trade fair. He regretted that huge resources had been committed to the sector without a commensurate result and urged government to adopt a drastic decision, including replacing those that are not fit with professionals.

“They are not doing enough. If you live in Nigeria you will know there is need for a lot to be done. So much money has been pumped in to that sector, yet situation remains appalling. I don’t know where you live but sometimes you stay three, five hours without electricity. It’s not normal for a city like Abuja”, he said.

He suggested to government to-redouble her efforts in the improvement of electricity supply by increasing funds allocation to the sector.

He said: “In my speech earlier, we request the government to put in more money, to put in more professionals into the industry at the highest level so that whatever decision that will be taken can stand the test of time.

“If you put somebody there who does not know anything about power you have to start explaining to him what transformer is, what the high tension is, it’s very complicated. I believe government will listen and adjust the policy in such a way that professional s will be used side by side and with increased funding the situation will improve.”
