An airline passenger has been caught smuggling a bag filled with snakes, parrots and a squirrel on a flight to the United Arab Emirates.
Airport staff in Abu Dhabi were rather surprised when they asked a passenger to open his carry-on luggage and found four snakes, two parrots and a squirrel inside.
A member of staff had spotted something moving inside a box the man was carrying shortly before he boarded a flight.
He had already flown into the UAE from Indonesia with the animals, which had been separated in different compartments inside the box.
Fortunately there had been no repeat of the 2006 film Snakes On A Plane, in which Samuel L Jackson has to fend off hundreds of venomous snakes released mid-flight.
According to experts quoted in Dubai newspaper 7 Days, the snakes were harmless reticulated and blood pythons.
A spokesman for Abu Dhabi police said the man was allowed to continue his journey, but without his collection of animals
