Playing politics with education

National Economic Council (NEC), made up of the Vice President, governors of the 36 states of the federation and ministers was kind enough to revisit the educational system of Nigeria at its monthly meeting on October 26. It said what Nigerians had known all along - that educational standards have fallen.

My dream for Dutsinma/Kurfi Federal Constituency,by Dahiru Kurfi

What motivated you into politics, which is generally considered to be a dirty game?

I want to believe that politics itself is not dirty if played according to the rules. Those politicians of the past knew their onions and they were accepted by their people because of their commitment and honest approach to issues. These can be attested to by the level of development recorded during their time, but the players of today are not following the rules, so, for this reason I am motivated by the zeal to serve my people in order to complement the significant efforts of our current Governor. My inner desire also is to empower our teeming youths who unfortunately in various circumstances find themselves lacking the   means of livelihood.

Benue 2011:Suswam’stroubles,PDP’s headache

Political activities have been intensified             in Benue state in the run up to next year’s general elections. Pessimism which, hitherto, occupied the minds of politicians, has now given way to optimism just as political parties are leaving no stone unturned in a bid to make an impact in the elections.

In support of Jonathan’s judgement (2)

An acceptable election with Jonathan   as candidate would also settle so many                myths about Nigerian politics. Chief among these would be the fabled political cohesion of the three northern geopolitical zones and their make-or-mar influence in Nigerian politics. With the widespread believe even among non-Northerners that the PDP is bound to preserve its presidential candidacy in 2011 to the North, it is left to be seen if the region can muster its political resources and "reclaim" its second term. Of course, inadequate media channels at their disposal would be a challenge in this direction and may thus be a wake-up call for its leaders who hitherto neglected this vital institution to their political peril.

Nwodo is the problem in Enugu PDP, says Chime

Enugu state Governor Sullivan Chime has accused the National Chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of being the brain behind the present crisis in the state chapter of the party.

The governor in a letter to the PDP National Secretary, Alhaji Abubakar Baraje dated November 9, 2010 said the crisis in the state chapter is as a result of resistance to Nwodo’s moves to hijack the machinery of the party in the state, particularly in his ward and impose persons loyal to him in the Executive Committee.

We are the greatest victim of rigging, says ANPP boss

The National Chairman of All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP), Chief Ogbonnaya Onu has said the party bore the brunt of rigged elections more than any political party in Nigeria, insisting that it “will do everything possible within the law to ensure free and fair election in 2011.”

Chief Onu, who stated this in Katsina, on Wednesday, said ANPP would resist every attempt to rig the forthcoming elections noting that the election would determine whether or not Nigeria develops.

2011: MOSOP calls for increased women’s participation

The Movement for the Survival                of Ogoni People (MOSOP) observed   the Ogoni martyrs Day in Bori , Headquarters of the ethnic group, and called for increased women’s participation in the 2011 political process in Nigeria.

2011: Critical North to decide soon, says Farouk Bibi Farouk

You recently held an interactive session with some youth groups supporting the candidature of IBB for the 2011 presidential polls. What was the outcome of the meeting?

As you are aware, we held a meeting with youth organisations involved in the support for the IBB 2011 projects. I can tell you that it was an opportunity getting to know some of these youth organisations that have shown tremendous interest in the actualisation of the IBB presidential dream.

Masari decries CPC members’ apathy

The Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) Contact and Mobilisation Committee, yesterday, decried apathy of its members, with the Chairman, Hon. Aminu Bello Masari angry, threatening to call off the meeting.
