Islam

The do’s and don’ts of Dhul-Hijjah

All praise is due to Allah Who has made us Muslims and chosen for us the divine path of Islam. We are ever grateful to Him for this nonpareil and matchless bountifulness. The dynamism of Islam is peerless to any previous or modern religion. It is very invigorating and enlivening to both the inner fulfillment and outer vivacity of every believing soul.

The sign board leading to al-Juhfah City (1430H/2009M)The fifth miqat; Zat-Irq, was assigned by the second Caliph, Umar bin Al-Khattab. History noted that after the defeat of Kufar and Basrah, the Iraqis requested him to allot them their own Miqat as travelling from Iraq through any of those Mawaqits was extremely difficult for them.

Hajj, like Islam, has also its pillars. While Islam has five pillars, hajj has only four principles. Just as if any of the Islam’s pillars is deliberately violated, one has completely ceases to be a Muslim, so is also applicable to any of the principles of hajj. If any is unattended partially or fully, the hajj of that pilgrim becomes null and void. However, apart from the four tenets of hajj, any other act is modifiable, correctable or compensable, in one way or the other.

The holy Ka’aba in MakkahFundamentally speaking, Islam remains the paramount prerequisite for the performance of hajj. This is true because the hajj of a minor, insane, sinner or deformed are all acceptable once they enter into the state of ihram; the stage ushering pilgrims into pilgrimage.

Before hajj becomes obligatory (II)

In the first part of this article, we started discussing the vital prerequisites for an acceptable hajj; those conditions that must be fulfilled before venturing into hajj.  By now we have come to terms with the fact that without Islam, hajj is not only null and void, but is essentially not obligatory. Similarly, lack of maturity, deficiency of sanity and financial dearth to an individual intending pilgrim, have put to final rest his/her zeal in the performance of hajj.

Today in sha Allah, we will conclude the fourth condition; financial, physical and security prerequisites into the rest of them. Bismillah!

Before hajj becomes obligatory (I)

In the next weeks to come, in sha Allah, I will be discussing with you the fifth pillar of Islam; the Hajj. Alhamdu lillah, we have just finished fourth pillar; the fasting of the month of Ramadan few weeks ago. This goes to confirm to us the beauty and naturalness of Islam. It has also established to us the continuity of Islam in our everyday life. In few weeks to come, we will be entirely engaged in the fifth pillar of Islam; the hajj.

I have recently experienced instances where not only young Muslim boys and girls were asked to mention the ten Sahabas who were granted automatic residency in paradise, in either formal quizzes or casual discussions, even elderly Muslims garble for someone’s facilitation or help to their rescue.

Muslims by their faith are supposed to remain unshaken by fabricated and manufactured stories circulating via the SMS or emails, until and unless they have verified them beyond reasonable doubts. They are not expected to be moved by stories about any new miracles of Islam, nor gestated by simple and cheap heresies, tittle-tattle or mere confabulation, usually manufactured to test their intelligence or otherwise.
