Advanced medical age, and pregnancy

No one likes being labeled, but celebrate your 35th birthday and get pregnant and you’re out of luck: like it or not, the letters “AMA” get slapped across your chart. AMA, or advanced medical age, is largely an arbitrary designation. After all, it’s not as if your eggs are aware it’s your big day. But experts need a way to delineate the increasing risks inherent in conceiving a child after you’ve passed the 35-year mark.

Dealing with ear infection in children

Though it is still raining, the harmattan would soon set   in. It is widely believed that this is the period when most children experience acute middle ear infection, especially those under two years of age; but it can also occur in children between the ages of 5 and 6.

Ear infection in children is usually triggered by the respiratory illnesses picked up during their kindergarten or first grade. However, its incidence rises during the dry season, when respiratory tract infections are common. However with prompt treatment, the diagnosis could be excellent.

Brisk walks lower breast cancer risk — Research

There are many risk factors for breast cancer that women have no control over, such as family history or the age at which they begin menstruating. Physical activity is one of the few breast cancer risk factors that women can do something about. There is a growing body of research showing that very active women are less likely to develop breast cancer than their sedentary peers. But less is known about the effect of moderate exercise, and whether less active women who start exercising get similar benefits.

Chewing gum and dental health

Smacking and popping bubble gum can be interpreted as a sign of irresponsibility especially in corporate environments, wed-dings, funerals, church etc. Some organizations even have a ‘no gum-chewing’ policy. It is also very irritating to get someone else’s gum stuck to your shoe. Why do people chew gum? Is there any benefit at all to be had from this habit? How can gum that somehow gets stuck unto hair, carpet or clothing be removed?
