Between Babangida and Ciroma (IBB & MAC) Is it pay back time?

Who does know or has not heard of the duo: General Ibrahim Badamasi              Babangida and Malam Adamu Ciroma in Nigeria? Nobody. Okay, may be infants. For both have been around power, both have been about power and both have been in power. And this is as long as some of us can stretch our imagination backwards. Yes, whether you are talking of the anterooms of power or the corridors of power or its sitting rooms and bedrooms, the duo have seen it all.

Why is THIS NASS after our democracy?

The current bunch in the National Assembly, who passes as our representatives in the parliament has never been known for its avertion to self-serving parliamentary antics. This is especially so of the leadership of the two chambers. It is on record that the Senate President, David Mark and his House of Representative counterpart, Dimeji Bankole have severally canvassed for an automatic ticket for Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) members in the NASS for the 2011 elections. The Senate President, to be sure, is more persistent in these calls.

When power slips away...

Thus Pharaoh incited his people to levity, and they obeyed him: for, verily, they were people depraved! But when they continued to challenge Us, We inflicted Our retribution on them, and drowned them all: and so We made them a thing of  the past, and an example to those who would come after them. (Quran 43:54-56)

Nay, by God, you must enjoin right and forbid wrong, and you must stay the hand of the wrongdoer [i.e. oppressor], bend him to conformity with justice and truth, and force him to do justice---or else God will set the hearts of you all against one another. [Prophet Muhammad]

Of late, the governors via their umbrella organisation, the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF), have been in the news. Of course, they are always in the news: what with their metamorphosis into a cabal of sorts, determining the direction of the pendulum of power: whether it is within the Presidency or at the PDP national secretariat. And let us not forget, turning the state party secretariats, in most cases, into extensions of the various Government Houses; thereby reducing the so-called party chairmen into glorified Personal Assistants or Special Assistants!

And remember when your Lord made this promise known: If you are grateful to Me, I shall most certainly give you more and more; but if you are ungrateful, Verily, My chastisement will be severe indeed!' (Quran 14:7)
