Alleged N50bn fraud: EFCC arrests 4 ministry directors

As part of  efforts to unravel the alleged N50 billion corruption charges leveled against former Works and Housing Minister, Dr. Muhammad Hassan Lawan, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday arrested four top officials of the ministry, including the Permanent Secretary.

 

EU condemns sectarian clashes, calls for calm

The European Union (EU) Heads of Mission has con-demned the spate of sectarian clashes in Plateau, Bauchi and Borno states, which has resulted in the loss of several lives and property worth billions of naira in the last three months.

The Mission also condemned the December bomb attack in Jos on Christmas Eve and the recent murder of the gubernatorial candidate of the All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP) in Borno state, Alhaji Fannami Gubio, and some party chieftains by unknown gunmen.

According to a press release issued by the EU delegation on behalf of the EU Head of Mission in Nigeria, the body conveyed it’s condolences to the families of the victims of crisis in some parts of the country.

 

 

PH deaths: Jonathan suspends campaigns

President Goodluck Jonathan has put off today's flag off of the Presidential Campaign in Borno and Yobe states.

A statement from special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, Ima Niboro yesterday said that the cancellation is to honour the victims of Saturday's tragic stampede during the campaign in Port-Harcourt.

He said that there will also be no campaign on tomorrow (Tuesday), to mark the Eid-el- Malud, the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

 

‘Why PDP members walked out on Jonathan at Kaduna rally’

A member of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) has  attributed the walk-out staged by some members of the party at the Kaduna presidential rally, held on Thursday, to the fact that most persons were more interested in seeing the party’s flag presented to their respective governors than listening to the President’s speech.
