Seven governors from the North-West geo-political zone yesterday met with Vice-President Namadi Sambo over which of its seven states are to produce the two executive slots zoned to the area by the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) National Executive Council (NEC).
The party’s NEC had, in its resolve to ensure equitable distribution of seats at its National Working Committee (NWC) at its forthcoming National Convention, zoned the positions of the national organising secretary and the national treasurer to the North-west.
Others at the meeting include critical stakeholders of the PDP from the North-west geo-political zone.
The meeting which held behind closed doors at the Vice President’s lodge in the Presidential Villa, was attended by the seven state governors including the Kaduna state governor, Ibrahim Yakowa. It was learnt that the ousted Kebbi state governor, Usman Dakingari, was also at the meeting.
The seven states in the zone include Kaduna, Zamfara, Kebbi, Jigawa, Kano, Sokoto and Katsina.
Although details of the meeting were sketchy at the time of filing this reports, our reporter gathered that the governors met with the Vice-President to determine whom to support among the array of aspirants for the position of the PDP national chairman and national secretary should the North-east and South-west zones fail to reach a consensus on whom to present.
Our source equally disclosed that the meeting deliberated on which states among Zamfara, Kebbi, Jigawa, Kano and Katsina would provide the two candidates earmarked for the North-west.
It was gathered that the duo of Kaduna and Sokoto were not being considered because they have produced the Vice-President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives respectively.
