Jonathan’s zoning doublespeak

President Goodluck Jonathan did not contest to be a state governor, yet he became the governor of Bayelsa state. He did not contest to be president of Nigeria and yet he became one. This has led some people to conclude that there is something prophetic in his name - Goodluck. Unfortunately, his assuming high office by a stroke of luck has denied him the opportunity to expose his credentials and the ideals he stands for. If anything positive can be derived from his recent decision to join the presidential race, this is it - we now know him better.

2011: President Jonathan and the zoning debate

President Goodluck Jonathan is a very courageous man. In fact, one can say quite correctly that he is audacious. Nigeria at 50: Primitivism or civilisation? (II)

By Aliyu U. Tilde

I am not the first author to employ the civilisation theory – which essentially is a cultural theme – to explain our decay. One Nigerian scholar, Malam Ibraheem Suleiman of the Institute of Law, Ahmadu Bello University, has eloquently expressed it in the 1980s.
