Corrupt politicians: You have earned my confidence, Farida

I must confess that since the war on corruption started in Nigeria with the mandate given to the anti graft agencies, especially the EFCC, headed by Mrs. Farida Waziri, to expunge the monster from our nation’s history,  this is the first time that I am having confidence that it will be stamped out completely, and that the future of this country will be corruption free.

Akunyili’s war against counterfeit medicines in Nigeria (II)

But she is quick to doff her hat for the Management, staff and Board of NAFDAC because according to her, the Agency couldn’t have recorded the successes without their diligence, patriotism and dedication to duty.

Akunyili’s war against counterfeit medicines in Nigeria (I)

Thursday, October 7, 2010was a unique day in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory. All roads leading to Transcorp Hilton were jam packed. Why? Nigerians from all walks of life queued up to the Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton, venue of the launch and unveiling of two books written by the Honourable Minister of Information and Communications, Prof. Dora Nkem Akunyili.

A case for Naija–optimism

After reading Ambassador John Campbell’s damning memorandum on Nigeria, I was overcome by a sense of hopelessness, a sinking feeling that maybe we might not make it as a nation. I felt a sudden doubt suffuse my usually optimistic outlook as it concerns issues about the future of this great nation. To be honest,

Which Udenta?

One of the persons who authored a recent advertisement, titled “We Will Not Be Deterred By the Politics of Impunity, Silence, Fear, Intimidation and Harassment”, which appeared in many national newspapers, appended his signature over the name Dr. Udenta O, Udenta, Director-General, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki Campaign Organisation.

The media, journalists and Sokoto governorship legal tussle

The main reason for siting of the Federal Capital in Abuja is to ensure centrality and easy accessibility from all parts of the country. Sokoto state is as close to Abuja as Lagos is to it.  Therefore, it is absurd to describe the state as faraway from national discourse and media focus.  After all every national news media has reporters and bureau chief in each state capital.

Nigeria, a nation of complex systems

Okah: Jonathan’s man told me to blame Northerners. It’s all lies, says Presidency. Dokpesi quizzed again. Ciroma, 14 others ask President to resign over blasts. Ex-militants condemn bombings at parley with Jonathan. IBB, Atiku, Gusau, Saraki demand probe of allegation. Jonathan’s camp: blackmail won’t stand. Ex-militants dissociate MEND from Abuja bombings. NNPC beefs up security-Denies bomb rumour. Bomb scare in N/Assembly. Insecurity threatens polls—Buhari.

Nigeria’s guest for technology transfer

Looking at the role of technology in nation building, there appears to be a need for policy reforms to energize the nation’s technological sectors and turn it into a responsive one that can compete favorably with those of other countries. This challenge is enormous and worrisome. It requires total commitment on the part of the policy makers and the people of the country.

The place of fiscal responsibility in the 2011 elections

Election periods provide the electorate the best opportunity to assert their sovereignty in a democratic dispensation. Politicians seeking political office rely heavily on the support of the masses for success at the polls.
