Council spends 50% allocation on workers salary

Alhaji Sharif Abubakar Kamarawa, Chairman, Isa local government area of Sokoto State has said that the council spent about N350 million on staff salary and welfare between February and December, 2008.

The Chairman, who disclosed this to newsmen in his office during the media tour organised by the state council of Nigeria Union of Journalists, added that within the period, all workers in the council were being paid their salary/allowances promptly.

World Bank boosts health sector with $90m

To boost the health sector, especially in the rural areas, the Federal Government has secured additional $90,000 million World Bank loan for twenty states to enable them tackle various health-related problems.

This brings to $3.2 billion, the total loan granted by World Bank to Nigeria between 2005 and 2009 under its Standard International Development Association (IDA) programme.

Promo fetches bank 25,000 customers monthly

The Group Managing Director of Diamond Bank, Mr Emeka Nwocha, has  said that no fewer than 25,000 new customers  register with the bank  monthly since the introduction of the Savings Extra Promo.

Nwocha said this at the presentation of a N50 million cheque to one Mr James Umaru Umbugadu by the Nasarawa  State Governor, Alhaji Aliyu Akwe Doma,  at the Sani Abacha Youth Centre,  Lafia.

FG may raise bond to settle ex-NITEL staff

The Federal Government plans to raiseof bonds at the capital market settle the  arrears of ex-NITEL/Mtel staff,  totalling about N17 billion.

This followed a recommendation by the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) following series of protests by the former telecommunication workers over unpaid salaries.

A senior official of BPE who would not want his name in print, confirmed the development to Peoples Daily in Abuja. He said that the bureau was making efforts to source the funds to settle the backlog of terminal benefits of the over  9,000 ex-staff of the communication  outfit.
