PROLOGUE
During the last fifty years, general elections had been conducted ten times in Nigeria at irregular intervals: 1951,1954,1959, 1964, 1979, 1983, 1991/93, 1997, 1998/99 and 2003. The first four elections were conducted under the parliamentary system whilst the rest were held under the presidential system of government. I participated as an election official during 1959 and 1979 elections but exercised my civic rights as a voter at the other elections except in 1954 Election which took place during my sojourn in the United Kingdom. This book is about my roles and recollections of some incidences during the elections.
The commission had on its record fifty-two associations which, upon full knowledge of the conditions of registration enumerated, announced their existence since the ban on political activities was lifted in the 21 September 1978. Out of this number, thirty-five asked for and were given the prescribed application forms for registration.
