New Ekiti state Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi with his certificate of returnLast Friday, after almost 41 months of struggle, Kayode Fayemi, of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), regained his stolen mandate and become governor of his Ekiti state. His was a long, heroic struggle. He fought many legal battles, won some and lost some. But he won the war. And by so doing, put paid to the subversion of the wishes of the Ekiti people that had gone on for 41 months.

In the United Kingdom, where the system does not allow for plea bargain, the sentence might have been less severe than in the U.S., but certainly not less than 8 - 10 years in jail. In Saudi Arabia, it is unlikely that she would have been made to serve time in jail, but her left hand would probably have been amputed, leaving her with a permanent scar as evidence of her guilt.

President Goodluck Jonathan Last week was important politically. It was a week of declarations. General Ibrahim Babangida and President Jonathan have both ended months of speculations and declared their intentions to contest for the presidency under the PDP. In the ANPP, Alhaji Bashir Tofa also officially threw his hat in the ring. This week may see many more declarations by aspirants - for the presidency, governorship and the legislative houses - from across the parties.
