For Federer, it’s No. 1 that matters

Andy Murray showed he is back on top form by beating Roger Federer in straight sets to win the Shanghai Masters. The Briton finally put the memory of his early exit at the US Open well and truly behind him as he won 6-3 6-2 to claim his second title of the year and sixth at the elite Masters 1000 level.

Youzhny wins Malaysian Open

Mikhail Youzhny of Russia stretches for a return against Andrey Golubev of Kazakhstan during their men's final match at the ATP Malaysian Open tennis tournament in Bukit Jalil, outside Kuala Lumpur yesterday. In-form Mikhail Youzhny followed his US Open semi-final showing by winning the Malaysian Open , coming from a set down to beat Andrey Golubev 6-7 (7/9), 6-2, 7-6 (7/3). Mikhail Youzhny won his second title of the season with a 6-7 (7), 6-2, 7-6 (3) victory over Andrey Golubev in the Malaysian Open final yesterday. The fourth-seeded Russian, who also won the BMW Open in May, needed 2 1/2 hours to beat the eighth-seeded Golubev. Youzhny took a 6-3 lead in the first-set tiebreaker, but Golubev used booming serves and strong backhands to win four straight points.

 

Ryder Cup: Westy, Kaymer lead Europe

Lee Westwood Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer will lead Europe tee-off this morning in the opening Ryder Cup fourballs against American duo Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson.
