The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) yesterday formally wrote to FIFA conveying the court’s decision to strike out the suit that had nuffified the August 26 elections into its board.
Musa Amadu, the federation’s acting secretary, had following the notice of discontinuance filed by the plaintive- the National Association of Nigerian Footballers (NANF), and subsequent decision by the court, forwarded a letter to FIFA announcing the reinstatement of the board.
It would be recalled that FIFA had on October 5 provisionally suspended Nigeria indefinitely until today when a time frame would be imposed if the issues which had led to the suspension were not addressed.
One of such was alleged government interference as evident the National Sports Commission’s (NSC) removal of the acting scribe of the federation, the extension of the kick off date of the domestic league as well as the NANF’s resort to the civil court over football matters.
As at yesterday, all the observed breaches were reversed and the board reinstated.
Consequently, Amadu said last night that the football federation has written to inform FIFA, which executive committee meets today about the development.
FIFA President, Sepp Blatter, who spoke angrily against recurrent allegations of corruption yesterday in Germany, had created the vista for Nigeria to help its course and thus escape the global axe.
Meanwhile, the board of the NFF will meet on Thursday in Abuja following the respite from the court.
President of the board, Alhaji Aminu Maigari, confirmed yesterday while acknowledging the court’s verdict and the reinstatement of the board.
“We are meeting on Thursday to deliberate on several matters including the Super Falcons’ quest to recapture the African Women Championship trophy, the Flying Eagles’ qualification for Libya 2011 and other pending issues,” he said.
