Opposition Action Congress of Nigerians (ACN) yesterday took stock of the 100 days in office of President Goodluck Jonathan and submitted that his administration has shown high level insensitivity to the plight of Nigerians.
The party in a statement signed by it Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, accused the President of engaging in frivolous spending that has no meaningful positive impact on the people.
The party said the actions of President Jonathan-led administration in the last 100 days have dashed the hopes for better governance and improved standard of living nursed by many Nigerians at the assumption of office by the President in May adding that the optimism earlier expressed has given way to despair and hopelessness.
It said the administration has made no appreciable progress in all the critical sectors such as economy and wealth creation, infrastructure, health, education, security, agriculture among others.
The statement reads in parts, ''instead, what we are daily confronted with is the news of how the Excess Crude Oil Account has been depleted to near zero in so short a time, with nothing to show for it; more darkness from Power Holding Company of Nigeria, even as tariffs are being hiked; more able-bodied Nigerian youths roaming the streets and a culture of impunity that allows illegal police checkpoints on freeways to send innocent Nigerians to their early graves."
ACN cited the recent approval for the purchase of three aircraft for the Presidential fleet, the N7 billion for the 50th independence anniversary celebration as some of what it described as frivolous spending by the Federal Government, adding that such has no direct positive impact on the people.
