Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mrs. Farida Waziri has called for an increased support for foreign investors doing “genuine” business in Nigeria, as a way of boosting direct investment and the economy as a whole.

The EFCC boss, stated this recently, at the Primus International Super Specialty Hospital, Karu, Nasarawa state, adding that it is only when the needed support is given to foreign investors, who operate within the ambit of Nigerian laws, that more of their likes can be attracted to invest in the country.

She said the anti-graft agency had not only taken steps to make Nigeria safe for foreign investors, but that “we have equally ensured that the country is not safe for crooked investors who come here to corrupt our system. Some of them have either been heavily penalised or are now facing criminal charges in our courts”.

Waziri, who expressed delight at the huge foreign investment brought into the country by the Indian owners of the facility, said, “It is obvious that it is not only the Nigerian economy that will gain from this huge investment but, the Nigerian masses have a lot to benefit from the services to be rendered through the facilities provided by this investment.”

While restating the federal government’s commitment to boosting the economy by encouraging genuine business ventures, she commended the chairperson of the facility, Mrs. Achla Dewan, for choosing Nigeria as the most suitable country to establish a specialised hospital.

In her reaction, Mrs. Dewan commended the EFCC boss, for ensuring that the organisation was not defrauded in the process of importing equipment for the facility, adding that the quick and professional intervention of the anti-graft agency in an alleged fraud case, that would have put an end to the entire vision of the project, is commendable.

While also commending the Federal Government and the FCT administration for supporting the realisation of the dream, Dewan assured that the hospital would provide world class health care services not only for Nigeria but for the African continent.
