Zanaco United of Zambia have boasted they will win this year’s CAF Confederation Cup after they eliminated two-time African champions Enyimba in a fourth round play-off at the weekend.
Zanaco edged past Enyimba, who have won the higher profiled CAF Champions League twice, 4-2 on aggregate to qualify for the group phase of the Confederation Cup.
Zanaco coach, Wedson Nyirenda, declared immediately his team booked their qualification ticket in Aba that their target is to now emerge winners of the annual club competition.
“I believe this is our best chance of becoming African champions. Our victory over Enyimba was the final of the competition because we do not believe any other team will stand between us and our dream now,” said Zanaco coach Nyirenda.
Zanaco ran up a four-goal lead in the first leg before losing 2-0 to Enyimba in Aba. “Enyimba gave us a little scare, but we came to Nigeria determined not to go out of the competition,” revealed the Zanaco handler.
The Zambian team is now drawn in Group B along with Egypt’s Haras Hodoud, FUS Rabat of Morocco and Tunisia’s CS Sfaxien. They open their group campaign against FUS Rabat on August 13.
