N700m fraud: Dariye’s trial resumes Oct. 27

By Sunday Ejike Benjamin

An Abuja High Court sitting in Gudu yesterday slated October 27, 2010, to resume further hearing on the criminal case slammed against former Plateau state Governor, Chief Joshua Dariye, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Dariye was arraigned on a 23-count criminal charge bothering on stealing, misappropriation of the state’s funds and criminal breach of trust.
Dariye had challenged the jurisdiction of an Abuja High Court to try him on an offence allegedly committed in Plateau state and on the refusal of the trial Judge, Justice Adebukola Banjoko to hands-off the case.
His appeal was however struck out, as a 3-member panel of Justices led by Justice Uwani Musa Abaaji, on June 17, 2010, dismissed it as lacking in merit.
Justice Banjoko will, on October 27, 2010 resume further hearing on the case.
